Allende Meteorites
marbline.gif (3500 bytes)

The Allende Meteorite fell on Pueblito de Allende, Chihuahua, Mexico at 1:05 am on February 8, 1969.  The Allende created a huge fireball, then exploded, raining fragments over an area of more than 60 square miles.

The Allende is a very rare Type CV3 Carbonaceous Chondrite.  It was only the 17th CV3 fall prior to 1972 from a total of 675 studied meteorite falls.  Allende Carbonaceous Chondrites have white Calcium-Aluminum-Titanium inclusions throughout the meteorite.  Scientists believe that these are among the first matter to have crystallized and are older than the earth itself.  Just click on the image for enlargements and pricing.
